-
Food refusal (e.g., avoiding vegetables)
-
Spitting out food
-
Prolonged or stressful mealtimes
-
Reliance on distractions to eat
-
Preference for only certain food texture
About
Dr Polly James, Clinical Psychologist
(BSc, DClinpsy)

I’m a Highly Specialised Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in the NHS and private sector, and a real passion for supporting families. I provide a warm, friendly, and non-judgmental space where children, young people, and parents can feel safe, heard, and understood. My work spans across the lifespan, and I have experience with a wide range of physical, emotional, and neurodevelopmental needs.
As a mum of two young children, both with multiple allergies and feeding challenges, I truly understand the stress, worry, and emotional load that can come with parenting, especially when navigating health concerns or additional needs. My personal experience deeply informs the empathy and care I bring to my work with families.
I believe in a holistic, individualised approach, drawing from a range of therapeutic models, such as CBT and Compassion Focussed Therapy, to offer support that’s practical, effective, and tailored to your family’s unique situation. I'm also a trained yoga teacher and value the connection between mind and body in promoting emotional wellbeing.
When I’m not working or parenting, I love running, playing tennis, and being outdoors (when time allows!).
Testimonial
Working with Polly has had a profound impact on our family.
Her compassionate, knowledgeable approach to allergies and anaphylaxis has not only reduced our anxiety but also given us the confidence to manage these challenges effectively.
Thanks to her support, we’re now doing so much more as a family. Thank you.

What to Expect
Individual therapy
During the first session I aim to get to know you and understand the reasons why you have come to therapy. I will ask you questions about your current difficulties and the impact this is having on your life right now. I may also ask about your history, relationships and any significant experiences (positive and negative). Asking these questions will enable me to assess and recommend the most appropriate treatment approach for you.
